OK, so maybe you haven’t seen an abandoned hotel before. Well, look at this:

Now you definitely have.

This is a hotel complex in China, San Chih, just north of Taipei, to be exact. It was never finished because someone decided it would be too expensive for people to pay to stay there. I stumbled upon the above pic at Tranism.com in . In the comments people who know more about it than the original poster or me chimed in and explained the deal. Hit the link above for more pics and info or have a look at the aerial view below that I grabbed from FlashEarth.com.

  1. Andrew

Reminds me of the Monsanto “House of the Future” that used to live in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.

Aren’t we supposed to be living in houses like that now? Where do you park the flying car?

  2. Oh yeah–I totally forgot about that. Well, the future is never as good as we expect. Or as bad as we expect. Sometimes it’s better, sometimes it’s worse, other times it’s just less interesting. As far as houses go, I think the 3rd option is where we are. I mean, hell, if you wanted to, you could spring for refrigerators with TVs and Internet connections. As for parking the flying car, I think they were going to ditch the car in favor of matter transport. It’s just more practical.
