"What really happened in Trafalgar Square" and what's with all this oppression?

Is this getting any coverage at all?

From Newstatesman.com:

What really happened in Trafalgar Square

Neither mindless nor violent, young protesters were forced into a stand-off with police.

“We’re fucked.” says the young man in the hoodie, staring out through the police cordon of Trafalgar Square, towards parliament. “Who’s going to listen to us now?”

Is it me, or is there a rising tide of governments abusing their citizens around the world? There are the usual culprits, but it seems like it’s getting worse, even in the so-called “civilized” world. I don’t mean just riot police beating on protesters, either. I mean riot cops AND governments siding with corporations in situations where human rights are involved—like unions and collective bargaining. You can’t outlaw collective bargaining. Yet, it seems like that’s what some US state governments would like to do. Then there are the eminent domain cases that have been going around over the past decade or so, plus the odd double-standard the USG has with the idea of freedom versus our “allies” who oppress people (though this is nothing new, sadly).

So much to process these days. It’s damn hard to keep up… thoughts?

TSA pats down a screaming toddler : The Mommy Files

TSA pats down a screaming toddler : The Mommy Files

The toddler was 3 years-old.

‘nuff said.

This is big brother, kids. It’s happening. I’m not saying the viewscreens are next, but how else will the government know we’re not planning to blow up an airplane before we leave our homes?

Hopefully the invasiveness we’re seeing at these airports won’t continue mission-creeping its way into our homes, but what’s to stop it when our security must be irrationally protected from a statistically non-existent threat?

It’s like asking a militant Israeli for proof that he owns the land he lives on and having him point to the Bible.

ORLY?

14 year-old kid stands up for gay rights—good for him! He draws a brilliant point about his city being the home to the KKK. Guess it makes sense that the school board hates gays.inothernews:dederants:totalfilm:azurefalls:dimitygirl:Fourteen-Year-Old Michigan Student Awesomely Stands Up for Suspended, Gay-Defending TeacherThe world needs more people like this.Read more on the story here: http://www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=6880&MediaType=1&Category=26PLZ RE-BLOG.If the unscripted words of a 14-year-old boy don’t change your mind about things, then there really is no hope for you.Haha—wait—so I should automatically trust the words of a passionate 14 year-old? Uh, I’m not going to do that. George W. Bush has the education of a 14 year-old and the passion of this kid. Does that make him right? Also, I think it’s much easier for a kid to stand up for something like this because 1) he has less to risk and 2) he isn’t fighting against a lifetime of indoctrination. All that aside, the kid is right. But I came to that conclusion after listening to his words, not his passion or his youth. Azurefalls (quoted above) is right—not only do we need more kids like this, we need more adults like this.Let’s try and work out what the actual threats to our livelihoods and let things like “who you sleep with” and “who you pray to” remain private (or at least personal). We should only go after enemies that have harmed us in some way. In closing, I would like to add that it’s quite sad that the only idealists left in the world seem to be children.
