So I get a call on my old Google Voice account today, which I've had for years but no longer use. Since I never use it, I just let it go to voicemail and the below is the (surprisingly 99% accurate) transcript that the Google Voice service provided:
This is Tracy, I'm calling from the doctor's office. You called for a record request. This is the number that was last. If you have any questions. Our phone number is (585) 865-8210. Thank you. Bye bye.
Reading that that third sentence made me expect some sort of non-American person leaving the message, but have a listen:
So, what the heck is this? I didn't make any request for records and if this is "the number that was last" used in said records, I can only assume these are someone else's records. The catch is, I've had this Google Voice number since before Google Voice was Google Voice. That's right, I signed up when it was still called "Grand Central." So, what the heck is going on here?
I Googled the number and it belongs to a real health care service, so it's not some sort of phishing scheme on the part of the caller. My GV number is in 310, so it's not likely a mistyped wrong number since the health care service is in Rochester, NY. I've never lived in Rochester, though I did spend some time in Syracuse. I had some medical issues while I lived there but I never went to a doctor in Rochester.
Puzzling...
