OO! THEY SAID THE “I” WORD!

by ThePete 3:31 pm 2005-06-17

Some of you may have a pretty good idea what the “I” word is… but they’re talking about it and boy was I glad I had cable yesterday because I got to watch history happen in a cramped little room where Representative John Conyers held an unofficial hearing on the Downing Street Memo/Minutes (see here for more on the story and the difference). See, they had to hold an unofficial hearing in a cramped little room because the Republican majority wouldn’t let them hold real hearings. Thanks to C-SPAN, we all got to watch the beginning of the “I” word process. Pretty damn cool watching people do what needs to be done in government if you ask me.

The great thing is that Conyers and his group of like-minded government types held the hearing, heard testimony and spoke about the Downing Street Memo/Minutes despite the ruling party not giving the OK, which was just what they should have done. See, the DSM is evidence of the Bush 43 Admin’s blatant dishonesty to the UKG, the US Congress and to the people of the United States. Thankfully, the press is actually covering this story.

Read an article from AP.org / MyWay.com and SacBee.com has coverage here. I found the second article mirrored at CommonDreams.org, as well. You might also want to check out AfterDowningStreet.org, which is a group dedicated to getting an investigation going regarding the DSM. One of the founders was a witness at the hearing yesterday and someone else from over there was kind enough to post a comment to my first post on the DSM, drawing ThePete.com readers’ attention to their efforts. Very cool.

Now, if you’re interested in making sure the law is followed, then you just might want to make sure that you follow this story. You might even want to stop by Rep. John Conyer’s website just to see what he’s up to. Assuming that you have respect for the law. See, it’s illegal for a sitting president to mislead the Congress. So, at the very elast we should have an investigation, right?

Man, these Republicans are scared shitless of investigations… you’d think they couldn’t handle being on the receiving end of a Ken Starr-style subpoena. Hell, all Clinton did was lie about oral sex–you’d think the Republicans had something really bad to hide or something!

oh…

Now, I get it. ;)
