Three days later, Capitalism is doing a little too well...

...As does blatant insensitivity. I guess what happened down the road from Madison Avenue (aka the advertising industry) hasn't effected them or the editors of People Magazine in the least. The below images are thumbnailed scans taken from this week's issue of People Magazine, dated September 24, 2001. However, my fiancee bought it off the stands on September 14, 2001. The same day, I bought Time Magazine's special issue. The editors saw fit to leave OUT the print ads. The folks over at People, apparently needed the money too much to leave ads out of an issue dedicated entirely to a truly terrible American disaster.

See if you can spot the utter tastelessness that made my stomach turn and my blood boil...
My apologies for the crappy scans - my scanner is too small to scan the entire 2-page spreads...

If you can't tell what's offensive to me about the print ads featured above, please feel free to visit this page. It has a bit of commentary to help you out...

My point in posting this page is that we are obviously not doing enough to respect each other. In the face of these disasters, ads have no place - we're all taking hits here and it's just disgusting that People Magazine feels the need to make money in a situation, ON a situation like this. I hope I'm not alone. Please contact them and tell them how you feel, if you agree with me. I know this isn't the same as giving blood or helping dig out the victims, but it's something we can do that will hopefully help humanity... even a little.

Send an email to People Magazine at Editor@people.com - click here to read the email I sent them. Hopefully the above images will make my point as they hopefully have with you. Thanks so much for reading this far and feel free to email me at thepete@thepete.com. Take care and be safe.
