ThePete.Com Update for 20080224

by ThePete 5:26 pm 2008-02-24

Welcome to ThePete.Com! There’s plenty to look at–blog, videos, pictures and more all updated DAILY. Click around and see what you can see. Tags are only semi-functional, but I’m working on them.

Having Some Plugin Issues…

by ThePete 4:42 pm 2008-01-30

So, I’m trying to stop TheMicroblogs from showing up on my mainpage, but Ultimate Category Excluder isn’t working. Also, I noticed that Twitter Tools isn’t assigning the correct author or category to my Twitters. OH, and TheAdmin posts (like this one) no longer show up in the main column. LOVELY.

WordPress Has Stabilized.

by ThePete 11:44 am 2008-01-17

OK, so WordPress isn’t giving me any trouble and so long as I don’t make any more major changes, I think everything will be cool from here on out. Tags work, but are barely implemented and I hope to begin tagging and categorizing all of my posts here starting with the earliest (from 1998!!).

WordPress 2.3.2 Is Possessed

by ThePete 10:57 am 2008-01-12

As I recently Twittered, I’m officially looking for a replacement for WordPress. Twitter Tools is flakey in it and WP has a tendency to change themes without asking or me doing anything. Last night I deleted all of the other themes only to find, this morning, that it had picked none and was not even properly displaying. Working with WordPress is like working with Windows 98–a frustrating, maze of challenges and complexities. Know of a better alternative to WP? PLEASE TELL ME!

Upgraded to WordPress 2.3.2

by ThePete 3:45 am 2008-01-09

The good news: I upgraded to WordPress 2.3.2 and while it was bumpy, everything is functioning–even tags work now!

The bad news: I now have to retag every post on the site, so tags (and even categories) won’t be super helpful for a while. All told, though, the upgrade went surprisingly well!

Sorry, Tags Don’t Work

by ThePete 11:13 am 2007-12-29

So, I was using Jerome’s Keywords Plugin for WordPress. I switched to Ultimate Tag Warrior when my tags would vanish from posts that I schedule to appear in the future. Now I discover clicking on the tags created by UTW send you to a 404 page. I am THIS close to ditching WordPress all together. I am SO sick of WORDPRESS’ SHIT. I’ve been struggling with this stupid blogging tool SINCE I INSTALLED IT. It’s making blogging hard to continue.

The XO is on The Way, According to FedEx, Anyway

by ThePete 2:41 pm 2007-12-21

Stop by TV.ThePete.Com to check out a live feed of my “studio” as I wait for the arrival of my XO laptop! It could show up at ANY time!! So, stay tuned!!

Working on New Layouts, please don’t mind the dust!

by ThePete 4:20 pm 2007-12-12

Everything should work, but the layout may look downright screwed up depending on where you are on the site or any of the sites in ThePete.Com Network. Please forgive the dust while I bang the crap out of the divs, tables (yes, I still use tables) and sidebar elements!

More Tweaks to ThePete.Com!

by ThePete 6:46 pm 2007-11-06

So, I’ve added a category for my Twitters/Jaikus/etc and another for my Tumblr.com-style posts. They are TheMicroBlogs and TheMiniBlogs respectively. Cool, huh?

Gotta Work on This Layout

by ThePete 3:05 am 2007-10-25

Sorry about the layout–ever since I added the Voxant video at the bottom of the sidebar everything’s been a bit out of whack. I’m working on it! Thanks for your patience!

ALL RIGHT, WHO’S LOOKING FOR ATOM BOMB DESIGNS ON THEPETE.COM?

by ThePete 3:03 am 2007-10-25

Wow, this was kind of funny. I was looking over my stats (I use the SlimStats plugin for WordPress) and spotted something a little disturbing. Check out this screencap to see how someone found their way to ThePete.Com:

Yep. Someone looking for an “Atom Bomb Design” found my site through Ask.com. What’s even more disturbing is that I totally forgot that I actually posted atom bomb plans a couple years ago to show how lousy security was for this kind of thing.

haha…

OK, just kidding. I really didn’t post plans that would allow you to design your own atom bomb, but I did blog about how you didn’t need to be a scientist in order to come up with your own design for an atom bomb. And yes, there’s something even more disturbing: that post has been viewed over 200 times.

Of course, that’s nothing compared to the 164191 times my post “Kari Byron Pics and More!” has been viewed, but hey, we can’t all be horny for smart, cute-as-hell women who look adorable in short, plaid skirts, can we?

ThePete Joins Another Frakking SocNet

by ThePete 1:48 am 2007-09-27

Oh, man. I’ve done it again and again.

I can’t believe I can actually keep track of all of these damn socnets! I’m going to have to have a separate post with links to all of them as opposed to the cute little boxes underneath the site logo…

So, yesterday it was my Tumblr blog and today it’s Virb and Mashable. I’d post a link to my Facebook, Mixi and Y!Mash profiles, but you have to be members of each of those sites to even see them. Very weird to have sites rely solely on word of mouth and not allow potential users a chance to have a look.

Ah well… if you’re on any of the sites that I’m on friend me, damn it!

UPDATE 2:18AM: I just HAD to join another. Now I’m on Bebo. What’s worse is that my URL for the site isn’t even my name–someone else is going by ThePete on there and the system won’t let me change it to “thepetecom”. LAME.

ThePete’s Tumblr Blog

by ThePete 2:48 pm 2007-09-25

Remember this post? Well, I’m putting my money where my mouth is. Let’s see how shallow I get!

ThePete’s Tumblr Blog

Damn! I called it a Tumblr Blog!

I don’t think I’m supposed to do that!

by ThePete 12:43 pm 2007-09-11

Just added “TheStuff Stand” (a Lemonade Stand from Lemonade.com) to the sidebar that features items handpicked by me for you to buy, should you choose to. Each sale from TheStuff Stand and my Amazon links and the Cafepress links, help pay for this site and everything else I do. So please have a look or just click some Google ads. Thanks!

ThePete: In Second Life and On Twitter!

by ThePete 2:12 am 2007-09-05

Hey, this is just a quick note that you can follow my adventures in both real life and Second Life. First, if you have an account at Twitter.com why not follow me? Find me on Twitter at Twitter.com/thepete <–clever, huh?

And I’m playing around a bit in Second Life, too. I’m not in Second Life as often as I am real life, of course, but I do enjoy the odd excursion into the virtual world. So, if you’re in-Life and want to add a friend, look me up! I’m ThePete Writer inside SL. I’ll also try to mention on Twitter when I’m in SL, too.

I hope to see you around!
